All gifts will be giving to Southington Social Services to distribute. Suggested gifts are: baby bottles, pacifiers, teethers, receiving blankets, footed, long-sleeved onsies (size medium), baby socks, small infant-appropriate toys, baby soap, baby shampoo, wipes and sippie cups.
‘’Fill the Ark’’ Advent Calendar
Heifer International sends chicks and ducks to Vietnam to enable them to have food and a small business to create money for the things they need including schooling for their children. Vietnam is Tracey Gabree’s home country and we are honoring her memory with this collection. Each day for 4 weeks starting on December 2nd, follow the Fill the Ark calendar and put your money in the ‘’Heifer Bank’’ to collect money. Calendars and banks will be handed out on December 2nd. They will also be available in Memorial Hall for adults. Please return the bank to church school on December 30th.
Church Council has set up a coloring table for children at coffee & conversation at 9:30 & 11:15 each week. Please join us after worship!
Our Christian Education youth programs are led by many dedicated and caring adults and teens. Please see our 2018/2019 Information letter for more details. Want to sign up your child for Sunday School? You may download our registration form here.

What's My Child Learning About in Church School?
December 16th Luke 3:7-18
The children will learn about John and how people's anxiety was heightened so that they were scrambling to get ready for the Savior and to be baptized.
December 30 Psalm 148
This week’s scripture readings sing of the love that binds the universe together, joining sun and moon, men and women, mountains and fruit trees, and even sea monsters in a seamless garment of praise. They remind us that Christmas is not just a single day of festivities, but a celebration of all creation that continues long after the last gift is opened.
January 6 Matthew 2:1-12
The Magi were likely Zoroastrian astronomers: scientists who had learned to study stars as part of their religion. They believed their god had charge of the stars until one day it was consumed by the fire of a star. Which is why they were consumed by the study of stars and it brought them to the feet of Christ. God works in many ways and walks with us on our journey too.
On Baptism of Jesus Sunday, we look back to God’s promises fulfilled in Jesus. This week’s Isaiah passage shows us a future gaze to the fulfilment of God’s promise to one day gather people from East, West, North, and South in the realm of God. This week’s backward glance and future gaze remind us that Jesus is the center of all of God’s promises.
God acts in unexpected ways. Today’s scriptures remind us to stay open to the new places and new ways that God’s work is revealed. We must take notice of God’s surprising activity in the world.
The children will learn how to live in a way that pleases God. They will see God's guidance so they can live into the fullness of who God created them to be.
Nursery & Toddler Care
Introduce your child to their loving church family in FCC Southington’s bright and cheerful air-conditioned Infant/Toddler Nursery. A full staff of Safe Conduct trained adult and teen caregivers is available during the 9:30 am and 11:15 am worship services year round. The nursery is fully equipped for your infant’s needs and has plenty of toys and activities to keep your toddler happily occupied while you enjoy worship.
Due to severe food allergies, we ask that the Nursery remain snack-free; of course you can leave a bottle for your infant.
Stop by and see our nursery, meet the caregivers, and introduce your child. You are welcome to stay with your child if you’d like, and listen to the service over our intercom speakers.
Parents are asked to sign in their child on the attendance sheet and complete our nursery security label.
Preschool - 1st Grade
Preschool children (age 3 and toilet-trained) through 1st grade children meet in the Village Green Nursery School room at the beginning of the 9:30 am and 11:15 am services during the church school program year (September – June). Our Safe Conduct trained volunteer staff of adults and teens provides a fun and nurturing environment, while teaching age-appropriate Bible stories.
Due to severe food allergies, we ask that the Preschool – 1st grade class remain snack free.
Parents are asked to sign in their child on the attendance sheet and take their security photo.
Our preschool through 1st grade children are members of our youngest choir, All God’s Children. The children practice in their classroom and periodically sing at the beginning of a worship service.
Our church also offers a weekday preschool program for 3- and 4-year-olds. Visit the Village Green Nursery School website for more information, and read an article from Southington Magazine by clicking here and turning to page 21.
Grades 2 - 8
Children are important here at the First Congregational Church of Southington. Our goal is to help them each know they are special and loved by God. We have a dedicated group of Safe Conduct trained teachers who work with our children every Sunday morning during our 9:30 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. services during the church school program year (September – June). During the summer, one combined Church School class is held for all 3rd - 8th graders.
On most Sundays during the church school program year (September – June), children begin the 9:30 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. worship services in the sanctuary with their families until after the Children’s Message when they are dismissed together with their teachers to go to church school.
Chapel Sunday – On the first Sunday of each month we offer children’s Chapel Service. The children gather in the Chapel for a brief child-oriented worship service. Children participate in worship with readings, drama skits, songs, and more. At this service, they may also participate in the sacrament of Communion. They will then walk with their teachers to their classrooms.
In general, Church School classes are split up so that there are 2 – 3 grade levels in one classroom. Our children learn about God with age-appropriate, lectionary-based lessons taught by using our hands-on curriculum, Seasons of the Spirit.
In addition to our classroom music and drama activities, children in 2nd grade and up are also welcome to participate in our Roots choir and other music and drama ministries at FCC.
